Las Rodillas chute

Las Rodillas chute

Red: The shortcut descent route from the ruins of Dr Luis Mendez hut, bypassing the class 3+ rocky spine of the ridge of Rodillas on the glissadable scree. To get into the chute from the ruined shelter, drop off the ridge to the right (West) and keep angling down and to the right, until the coloir opens below you. Below the major rock band, the left side of the gully opens and one should exit the coloir for a downward traverse to the left to Grupo de los Cien hut. The ascent route to the Rodillas roughly follows the blue arrow up the sandy scree, then along the crest or its left (West) side.

Thank You

for sharing this image with us. Our group ran out of time just above the blue arrow a few days ago. I found this part of the route to be somewhat confusing. Thanks for explaining it in detail.

Re: Thank You

Thanks. You got a nice TR! This confusing section - it is usually ascended in the pre-dawn darkness so few people can describe all the details ... neither did I. But the descent route, that's a different story :)

Re: Thank You

FYI, I returned recently and finished the peak. This time we didn't bother with the standard scramble route. We went both up and down the scree chute.
