SummitFest
We learned that Saturday was SummitFest at Bogus Basin so that is where we started. My son Tanner is a very skilled BMX rider/racer so he was excited to buy a lift ticket and hop on a ‘trek downhiller’ After a couple of hours I felt like the demo was turning into Grand Theft.
Finally he surfaced and wanted to do one more run. When we returned the bike back to the factory demo folks they had compliments on Tanners abilities (maybe they were just trying to sell the bike) but they sounded sincere. I asked like the big shot dad and said, “So how much do these run?” he very calmly said “this one runs about $6,500.” So Tanner and I started our hike….yes, you can chuckle now.
Lets Hike
We jumped on the trailhead “ridge to rivers” #140.
We hiked down to the campground at the Mores Trailhead. This was a treat as we were going to “ruff it”. We set up camp and introduced dehydrated meals to my son. He seems to like it well enough to eat it. The campground is full of life and good people. We met a father/daughter (she was a precocious 10 year old) that was from Boise. He and I discussed “Pac 10 Football”, something we both loved and had in common.
Smores on Mores
So Tanner says, “Dad I want marshmallows” I said, “here is some money, see if someone will sell you some.” He roamed the campground and got no takers. As we were discussing (or Tanner trying to convince me to go find some), two people from the next camp over brought some smores fixins for my boy. Very cool way to end day one.
Next morning we got up and started up the trailhead to Mores Mountain. It was a wonderful and scenic hike. We stopped at several of the crags and rock areas and did some lite scrambling. We came across a tin with a summit register but it appears from pictures on SP that there is a question on exactly where the true summit is. We hit both then descended down to the campground and hiked back up to #140 and on our way back to the car.
Total elevation gain for the 2 days 3308 Feet and 8.48 total miles hiked.
