The trip

Thorp Mountain

Another weekend day, another fine summit. Redwic and I were originally going to go up Mount Cleveland but decided Thorp was a better idea. Judging by the views from the summit this quick 5 mile; 1800 feet elevation roundtrip hike was clearly a good call. Tomorrow we are heading for something much larger so Thorp Mountain was a good warmup!

Amabilis From Thorp Mountain

We decided to take the Knox Creek trail up to the summit. This trip up was a pour hike. Nothing difficult here as the trail begins up some steeper switchbacks and head up about 1000 feet in the first mile. When the trail hits the top of the ridge you make a quick right and the trail descends slightly to the final summit push which is a steeper grade switchback hike to the summit. This mountain in my estimation is an ideal beginner/ family hike. As for snowcover, there was very little of it and though we brought ice axes just in case we didn't need anything. Not including the hour and a half on the summit it took us two hours roundtrip.

Thorp Mountain

As for the views, they were very good today. The views shocked both Redwic and I, who were expecting good views but what we found was quiet impressive. The summit features an great southerly view of Mount Daniel as well as a good view of Mt. Stuart to the northeast and Mount Rainier and Adams to the south. It was a pretty day and with exception to a little pollution haze from Seattle the views here were perfect. Unfortunately I forgot my SD card so I personally don't have photos but Redwic took a ton.

Thorp Mountain

On the way back Redwic and I decided to check out the summit of Amabilis again. The views from the summit were actually quiet different from the week before. We decided to drive it this time to summit area. Mount Daniel ruled the north, Rainier ruled the south and Stuart's top just barely clear Kachess Ridge. Great views again here on what was an amazing day weatherwise.
