Each tree is firmly anchored ...

Nacked roots ...
A couple from Dolomiti di...

Roots of land and water plants anchor them into the bottom. The roots of grasses are numerous and almost invisible when viewed singularly. On the second pole of our visual perception there are huge roots of trees. If you are looking at a mountain slope, a bare rock with a tree overgrowing it, an eroded bank of a crazy mountain river or small stony brook, you can often perceive a very strange but beautiful net of thick curved roots. Their shapes are so spectacular that sculptors use them to create original works. Heavy storms sometimes pull out of the soil the root system and then we observe it as nacked and broken. Such a damage is especially common in spruce forests because this tree has a broad but shallow root net.
I think many SP members admired such a picture ....

Roots and Rocks

I find the roots very interesting. I think the most fascinating is when a tree is uprooted and upside down with rocks entwined with the roots. Like the tree is hugging a big boulder.
