Trailhead and hike description

Begin hiking from Santa Fe Ski area parking lot, Winsor Trail 254. The first 0.5 miles of trail is steep climbing 500 feet over several switchbacks. You reach a saddle at the Pecos Wilderness boundary. Take the unmarked but easy to follow trail that heads right (east) parallel to a fence. This trail follows the crest of Raven's Ridge through the conifer forest along the boundary of the Pecos Wilderness. After about 1.5 miles from the start, you come to a spectacular viewpoint looking towards Santa Fe Baldy. The ridgeline narrows, you reach a small summit, drop about 100 feet and continue up the ridge. Soon the crest of Lake Peak comes into the view.
Deception Peak has a large round summit, and is located right above the Santa Fe ski area.
The ski descent is easy - only a short skiing in the backcountry and then you drop into well kept runs of the ski area.

Dear Liba,

I enjoyed very much browsing through this album with photos you took of what must have been a fantastic day on skis - especially those two pictures with the bird sitting on your hand...I love your expression for it...the "Francis of Assisi syndrome"...it comes close to what I feel myself in such moments!

Re: Dear Liba,

Thanks Eric again... it was a great day, easy hike (only 3.5 miles up), and easy skiing down, co-operative weather, and birds everywhere...

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
