did you guys go down the way you went up via Whitewater or did you take a different route down?

Yes we did come down the same way we went up. Probably a bit on the slow side but it took us 14 hours camp to camp.

How was the glacier itself, still pretty closed up? I'm not sure about the season for this route and whether it will still be straightforward for the next few weeks.

Yes the glacier was in pretty good shape the crevasses are easy to go around. The traverse is very level and rather pleasent. The route is safe to travel in late summer according to J. Thomas' book. Having seen the loose c..p on the sourheast ridge I would recommend this route over the south ridge approach. It is much more scenic and less scree to deal with.
