Summit of Jirishanca in first... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Summit of Jirishanca in first...
Summit of Jirishanca in first sunlight and with disappearing moon. Seen from Laguna Carhuacocha (August 1994). The route of the first climbers is the ice-covered pillar from the bottom right edge of the picture. There several times they had to dig through the corniches to reach a higher ice field because it was not possible to climb them.

"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."   --M. Cartmill
