Bob Loomis leading Crazy Fingers, a really nice 5.10A finger crack on Middle East Wall (9-25-04). I really enjoyed cleaning this pitch.

Hasn't voted | Hey, thanks Radek. It was a really nice time. Definately a good place to work on some harder topropes and leads. Just trying to get strong for next year, so I can actually climb all those routes I've been drooling over. :-)
Speaking of Basalt, have you been down to the Lower Gorge at Smith? I hear there are a lot of nice basalt cracks there. I see there is also an area next to it (Student Wall?) that has a bunch of easier stuff too.

Hasn't voted | Hey Martin, I saw this thread and thought I would respond. You are right; there are some great basalt columns in the lower gorge at Smith. The real draw--hardly anyone climbs down there; you are guaranteed to be able to get away from the Smith crowds. There are some nice routes down there. Some of the downsides--the routes can be rather dirty and slippery and there aren't easily accessible anchors for all the routes. That being said though, it is definitely worth exploring. The side of the gorge that the road and parking lot are on has some really long (and sustained routes on it). Student Wall does have some good routes to practice on--and I think it sees a bit more traffic than the rest of the gorge. Hope this is helpful. --Natasha | | Posted Oct 4, 2004 10:48 am |

sorry for delay - I was out of the internet loop for last few days. we've not climbed in the gorge at all. something to do though this winter when we get a chance.
