My First Teton Peak Summit

After several prepartory climbs and a couple of failed attempts on Teewinot I was able to summit and ski Buck Mountain with the leadership of Exum Mountain Guides' Aaron Dahill. I am embarking on a quest to climb and ski the Teton's Seven Summits. This was the first one. For serious ski mountaineers, this is probably not such a big deal. But for a 53 year old computer analyst who has a regular 8-5 desk job, it is a bit more of a stretch. I found out through this climb, and other climbs/skiing on the Middle Teton, Teewinot and Mount Moran that for me personally the skiing is my strong area and the climbing is where I need to improve - primarily in the strength and fitness areas. So, I've cranked up the training and nutrition!

The view from Lunch Rock

Here are some photos that I took with my iPhone at a good resting point that Aaron referred to as Lunch Rock. This is also right at Timberline Lake.
The first photo has a story behind it. As we were up on the summit of Buck Mountain, we could see to other climbers/skiers on top of Static Peak. They were the second party to summit and ski Static that day. The interesting thing here was that the one guy was attempting to ski the North Couloir, which even in good conditions is a "fall you die" route. He had made one turn in, and then decided it was not wise to continue, (probably due to the firmness of the snow in the north facing couloir). I was pretty impressed with his ability to get himself out of the situation and climb back out of a 55 degree or more couloir! The other impressive thing about these two guys was that they climbed and skied 3 peaks that morning - Albright, Static and Buck.
