that the red rock of Arches can be so solid to take cams and nuts and hold your weight, but so soft that ropes can carve an impression into it.

yeah - it's quite a sight to see those rope grooves. Makes you realize how delicate this material really is.

I agree - the light-colored summit cap seemed more "sandy" than the stuff below.
