Climbed with my daughter Tatiana from the west (from Volcan) and descended into Boquete to the east, traversing the mountain in about 11 hours. The west is much, much nicer, but going down the road into Boquete was welcome for the descent.

Great views north to the Atlantic, but lots of rain toward the Pacific. Never been above the clouds like that.

Not very interesting route, but the (brief) sunrise at the top is worth it. Plus, just another physical challenge, if you don't mind the abuse on your knees. About 4.5hrs up, 11hrs-ish total including waiting about 1.5hrs for the sunrise and taking pictures.

Fun climb. Would recommend if you are in the area. Nothing major really other than the gorgeous views on summit while the sun was dawning

Basically a long rocky jeep trail until a little scramble at the top. Completely socked in at the top during sunrise. The view is a gamble the nice workout is a guarantee. 9hrs CTC

A long, LONG uphill slog but well worth the effort because we got to see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans at the same time.

BLongAlmost Completed CA High Points  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Mar 23, 2013

I had a blast getting some adventure in on Volcán Barú after a week in Bocas. I highly recommend to climb this peak from the town of Volcán (not Boquete) as the path via Volcán is a great trail (albiet littered), with far fewer people and better scenery. This was my 7th North American High Point. Great times!

We split our ascent into two days.

After getting a late (4:30pm) start we hiked into the night and set up camp at about 9km (there's no established camping area at this point, it's just a flat spot on the shoulder of the "road"). The next morning, we set out at 5:30 and made the summit by 7:30. Visibility was great and we were treated with 360-degree views.

I definitely recommend getting to the top early in the day. Several hours after we summited, the entire upper-mountain was covered by clouds.

barrygNIce climb, shame it was so cloudy  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 9, 2007

We took a taxi from Boquete at 4am to the trailhead and started the climb at 4.30 am, hoping to reach the summit before the clouds rolled in. No such luck with the clouds, but it was a great hike nonetheless. Easy to find the route to the top, and I liked the distance markings every kilometre.

Climbed with my gf took us about 7hrs to the summit we saw the pacific coast going up but the clouds passed over us so we could not see the Atlantic side at the summit. It was rainy but overall was really nice.

ChristianRodriguezGreat climb - Cerro Punta Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jan 14, 2008

Cerro Punta route is recomended, is a really nice trip with a huge vegetation and rock climbings. Aprox 6 hours by this route is required to reach the summit. From the top is cleary to see Atlantic and Pacific Ocean at the same time. AMAZING!!!
