Volcan Tunupa (5160m - Bolivia)

Volcan Tunupa (5160m - Bolivia)

Volcan Tunupa seen from la Isla Pescado, right in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni. In winter months there is usually water on the Salar (salt flat) which gives this incredible reflection. The lines on the left hand side are made by 4x4, as it is the only way to go around at that period. Picture taken at sunset, the 3rd evening of our 4-day trip across the South Lipez Desert and the Salar de Uyuni (Southern Bolivia). That same evening we had to drive to Hotel del Sal (two hours East), but it was a difficult task for our driver, as in the dark all you see, is a flat space in front of your wheels. The usual trail was covered by water. We used the stars to make sure we kept in line with our destination, as well as our driver's intuition of course ! A little scary but... thrilling ! Volcan Tunupa is part of the Cordillera Occidental. A page on this range will come soon...
