We followed the ice axe holes...
We followed the ice axe holes of the previous party up the Dana Glacier to Spire Col in the fog. Here we are getting ready to brave the descent down the cliffs on the other side of the saddle behind us. From left are Dave Allen, Bob Vinsonhaler, yours truly, 12-year-old Scott Gilliland, and Duane Gilliland. The descent ended up being easier than feared, as we were able to do it with our packs and without ropes. August 9, 1988. Photo by Leon Cheney.
