Better this time
Pretty much took the route as described. Maybe I was lucky, but the routefinding was straightforward and enjoyable. I traversed across the top, and indeed the point I turned around 5 years ago was only one small obstacle down from the peak. I went ahead and crossed that and descended the same way I did then, down a steep chute to a little meadow above the reservoir (the way I took up was probably overall better). Lovely Hike.

Did not go well.
I was feeling strong and had plenty of time coming down from S Thunder on the beatout. I made the mistake of thinking I'd add Bells Cleaver on my way down. Ran into a lot of pine but got over to the saddle OK. Found one trip report on peakbagger implying the climb from the saddle was easy. I'm no mountain goat but I think my bouldering skills are ok - I'm pretty sure I can guarantee there is no easy route up the S Ridge. I got into more and more trouble as I went, finally was just grateful to find a traverse to the W that led me to a steep chute I could descend. It was at the point of a small saddle (Can you call it a saddle when it's really just a low point on a knife edge?) Of course I looked up. . .It might be a little easier than what I had already accomplished. . .Only another 100'. . .Per summitpost, the route down the other side should be much easier. . .These are the thoughts that go through the head of a hiker who doesn't like to turn around. But no, I had made several 5.? moves on the way up, some of them with some exposure, and I had a way down. I took it. The chute turned into a tiny creek where I filled (and treated, although it was probably pretty safe) water. Had a nice walk down from the reservoir. Sure is a beautiful canyon.

went wellGot a bit off route on the way down adding some extra scrambling, keep looking back on your way up!
