Western Desert and Flank of Vernon Bailey from Upper Promontory

This is a pic from our descent via the insane route down the back side of the mountain. The route involves bushwhacking along an incredibly steep and heavily-vegetated talus slope suspended between two cliff bands. You are forced to follow this slope for quite a distance before you can safely down-climb without cliffing out, and there are numerous places at which, if you traverse too high, you can become trapped. The Upper Promontory is just below the main summit of Vernon Bailey. This was taken immediately prior to a down-climb through a thickly-vegetated gully containing virginal scree. I think that the gully may be the drainage visible in the foreground of this photo, but I'm not sure.
