What's a toad doing at almost 2200 m?

What's a toad doing at almost 2200 m?

To be honest, there were several ponds on the broad and undulating east ridge of the Breitspitze, so water was not in short supply. But outside the summer season, it would certainly be pretty cold here most of the time. Not the place where I would expect a cold blooded animal.
