Beautiful Mountain  Sucess!

Hiked to the top on a perfect day; the winds were howling on top, but the views were very impressive. This was my first peak in the Wind River Range...

A mystical place  Sucess!

One of my favorite places to gaze out over the Northern Winds. I spent many a day in the middle of winter, with the wind howling, I mean really howling, trudging up the slopes of Whiskey. I used always do a little shot of whiskey on the summit. A tradition started by a friend the first time I was on the peak on a cold day in January. Some days the wind has been so strong, ski goggles are necessary. I have seen whole herds of bighorns up on the peak, and I feel bad when they get up and move on my account. The trail up towards the peak has been repaired, so it is now even easier in the dry months to hike up there. The view of Dubois and the badlands, and the Absarokas is quite the view. Looking at Ross Lakes when they are frozen is always lovely. I have been to the peak a couple of times with no wind, a rare treat. Whiskey Mtn is a truly mystical place, with a real Wyoming sounding name.

Fun Hike  Sucess!

Good intro peak to the region with great views of the high Wind River plateaus and the southern Absarokas. Plus bighorn sheep and a good hiking partner.
