White Butte - The Great 48

White Butte, ND (HP #17)

We finally found our way to North Dakota's state highpoint after a few fun detours (hint: Drive through Amidon, ND before trying to get to road 137).  We parked at the padlocked mailbox, made a donation, applied mosquito repellant and started the 1.75 mile walk up the butte.  Another helpful hint, when you approach the first section of rock, go to the left.  Thats where the trail is ;-)  The top offers expansive views of the Dakota prairie in every direction and we noted that watching a thunderstorm approach from here would be pretty cool.
