White House Ruins Hiking Trail, Canyon de Chelly

This is the 550-foot canyon wall down which the White House Trail at Canyon de Chelly, AZ runs. It's an easy 1-1/4 mile (one-way), class 1 hike to the canyon bottom. If you look carefully, you should see folks along the trail, giving you an idea of where it actually runs. The White House ruins are behind the photographer and across the canyon floor. This is the only trail into the canyon that's freely open to hiking by visitors; other hikes require the hiring of Navajo guides. Imaged in June 2003.
