| My first 14er, back in 2002. Before I was in good hiking shape, so my memory is that is was more difficult than any other 14er I've done. I'd like to go back and do it again now that I know what the hell I'm doing out there. I remember watching marmots dropping out from cars at the trailhead and being grateful for the chickenwire fence we'd brought along. | ||

| A friend and I left LA to head to White Mtn for a climb and we stopped in Lone Pine to check on conditions and supplies...needless to say the road to White Mtn from the California side is now closed and not supposed to be open until June 10 (Barcroft gate route). | ||

| Worst trip to date. Still can't decide which sucked worse - the terrain or the team dynamics. At least five days of good weather and plenty of patience are needed for a successful winter climb. | ||

| Left the TH at 0200, hit the summit for sunrise, cooked a mahvelous b-fast of sausage, pancakes, coffee, and champagne. A most memorable way to do an easy peak. | ||

| Mountained bike on the downhill and walked most of the uphill. Relatively easy hike, all trail and no obstacles. Was a little tired from Monty and Boundary the day before. Smoke from the fires limited the view a little. | ||

| Easy hike with beautiful and unique views of the eastern wall of the Sierra. This mountain range has a very special feel to it. A trip to the bristlecones afterward is a must! | ||

| What a treat! I was only told it was a 'walk-up'. But the 14 miles round trip w/3500' was wholesome. Went the day *after* they open it to Bancroft...so I had the summit and return to myself. What a treat, what a beautiful mountain, unlike any other 14er. Bike would be the way to go. | ||

| Cold/windy start at the gate, but the hike up was awesome with just a long sleeve shirt, pants and hat. Very comfortable the entire time. Summit was actually still and great temperature, cool and comfortable. Views were stellar in all directions, awesome 360 degree views in all directions. Labor Day Weekend, so quite a few people, but it actually was nice and met some cool people. Summited with wife and 2 friends, all had a great time. | ||

| Yup- in the Tacoma. Rangers told us the open hood helped with Marmots, the day before we drove by the trailhead and it was a funny sight to see a dozen vehicles all with their hoods open. I still think it likely does nothing though. We knew the tire was going flat during the hike- I was just happy we made it to the trailhead and could deal with it afterwards. | ||

| Finally made it to the summit after having to bail in a snow storm a few years back. Great views from the summit! I really like the landscape. We saw lots of marmots but no big horn sheep. | ||

| Mountain biked from the Barcroft gate. Enjoyed a windless summit with beautiful views. The ride down took us a little over an hour. Mountain biking down was an awesome experience for a non-mountain biker, I wish I could do that on every summit. | ||

| cab | Road from Barcroft Gate ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 30, 2009 | |
| Rode mountain bike from Barcroft gate to the base of the peak then stashed it and walked the rest of the way up. It was tough riding even that easy road due to the elevation (and the fact that I'm not really a mountain biker) but it was great having the bike for the way down. Would have had great views across the valley to the Sierra but it was pretty smoky due to fires. | ||

| Full moon for pre-dawn start. Lots of vehicles at TH, but didn't see a soul on the entire trail (yes I was wearing my glasses) and had the summit to myself for an hour nap. Very windy and chilly. | ||
