  • Whiteman Falls, IV, WI 6/ 95 meters.
    • The first pitch starts directly over the small flat staging area next to the wall that is Red Man Soars. It offers a variety of mushroom formations, the most interesting of which (photos) offered us a cool problem. The ladies seemed to take a split stance before pulling the roof. I did a full on heel hook which is very colorful by my standards. In any regard, it is quite obvious where the second pitch begins. We snared a slight hanging belay spot at the lower right corner of the top pillar. Move out left and climb the straight vertical 2nd pitch to the top.

    Glad to see you are enjoying the new warm environment down there. I ran into Adam last week and he had the Indian Creek guidebook in hand... too bad my April is way too busy to take off, or I would be joining them! You'll enjoy climbing with JC, he's the dude we ran into in the Bugaboos that was setting a new route on Snowpatch.

    Everytime it is warm...

    outside and I want to get motivated for ice climbing, all I have to do is look at this pic. Awesome shot! Really incredible,

    Dan, I started (serious) waterfall ice late in life, but man, nothing like it. Much more physical and serene than most of our other endeavors. Recommend pursuing it further every chance you get. This was a WI4 pitch leading up to a WI6 pitch in Kananaskis....we had just passed a mountain lion kill on the way in. Had to ski quite a few kms just to reach the creek we followed up for the start. Think we got back to our vehicles around midnight or something. Two sets of climbers, each met by accident in a parking lot for a much easier climb. All knew each other and talked ourselves into something more challenging. Eventful outing. Cheers.

    That is a great shot of water fall ice climbing! Looks Painful! Did you strech before the pitch? =)

    That is Lynette...she if far more capable of the splits than I am...although I am pretty flexible for an old guy...I had to heel hook that 'room, a move beyond my pay grade...just added The Black Orpheus to my radar yesterday after Radek teased me with some photos...hope to get on it soon...cheers

    For a guy, I am pretty limber they say, but that is Lynette, one of my favorite and best partners in the Rockies...she might as well be in the circus....I had to heel hook my way through that mushroom....cheers Tanya

    Cool, Wiktoria's mom...does she have horses? seemed to have knowledge of dressage, etc...I know VA is big on that...my wife is a dressage trainer and Wiktoria commented on a photo or two. In my opinion, ice climbing is safer than jumping horses if that what you two are up to! Cheers Beata

    We are leasing a trail horse- we do not jump. But my daughter is very interested in dressage. We plan to lease a more advanced horse for her.

    Beata, we should introduce the two...I really know of no one as dedicated to dressage as my wife...as obsessed and committed to that, if not more so, than I with climbing.
