I was just up there yesterday and everything is just beginning to change. Going to be an exciting week for hiking!

Thanks. This basin is relatively close to Maroon and Crater lakes but doesn't see much traffic at all.

So I mentioned that I went up there a few days ago. I initially wanted do hike up some of the peaks surrounding the basin and finally got the chance. Did an overnight last night. I made the summit on Buckskin Benchmark on Tuesday, but then a big storm came in which made climbing tough today. I tried to make it up Willow Peak, but it was far too icy. Went up a small unnamed 12,000 peak instead.

The basin is still not quite as colored as it is in your photo. Any idea when you took this exactly?

I believe it was towards the middle of September. I love the red rock in that area.
