bechttRainy and cold  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Oct 4, 2015

Bob led and it started hailing while he was about half way up. I was ready to chicken out (I hate cold and wet rock) but Matthew climbed it so I resigned myself to go up -- thankfully top-roped.

Nice hike... about 3 hours from the main dirt road..5 miles or so one way. I obviously missed the easier way to get there

asmrzIncredible views, fun hike and climb  Sucess!
Date Climbed: May 3, 2008

On November 5th, 1981 (I remember the weirdest things), Bill Krause and I drove down Hwy 395 after climbing Mendel Couloir. He told me about the Monument but I was as blind then as I'm today and could not see it from the Highway. For years I swore I would hike up there one of these days. My better half finally took me there in May. We had the most wonderful trip. While getting ready to climb the pinnacle, we heard someone walking up to the formation. Our friend Dave Baldwin, while taking a day off from his wife's activities in Lone Pine, decided to hike up to the monument solo. He took our photos climbing the monument. Small world!
