| On November 5th, 1981 (I remember the weirdest things), Bill Krause and I drove down Hwy 395 after climbing Mendel Couloir. He told me about the Monument but I was as blind then as I'm today and could not see it from the Highway. For years I swore I would hike up there one of these days. My better half finally took me there in May. We had the most wonderful trip. While getting ready to climb the pinnacle, we heard someone walking up to the formation. Our friend Dave Baldwin, while taking a day off from his wife's activities at Lone Pine, decided to hike up to the monument solo. He took our photos climbing the monument. Small world! |
