What happens if you fall hard enough?Doesn't wood break? Even if you are using oak or something hard, I would imagine a good fall could just crack the piece in half. It is extreme and badass nevertheless, but I was curious as to how effective it actual is.

There are some climbsin the Red River Gorge that were initially protected by big white oak chocks.

Re: ???I used it in our basalt crack area and I made it specifically for the route Takozlarin Efendisi, 5.11-. There is nothing on basalt surfaces to chip it off or brake and it jams perfectly just before the crux.
It worked perfectly in some short falls (one is 2 m and other is around 1 m) but of course I can never say it is bomber.
On that route you put this hex in place then must pass a nice stem roof without handholds. And you are so close to fall before reaching knee size offwidth.

CoolWe have a few routes out here that will need slung 2x4's to protect as we do not have real big gear like the BigBros and such. Hey its Oldschool I know. They used to do that in Vedawoo,Wyoming.
