Woodland Pink (Dianthus sylvestris)

Dianthus sylvestris (Local name Karanfil) flowers June-August in rocky mountainous areas anywhere inside 1000 to 2800m altitude range. In Dinaric Alps, though it is most comon on the rocky slopes inside 800-1200m altitude. Blossom of this Caryophyllaceae contains one of two flowers on a stalk 15 to 25 mm diamatre. Contrary to what colorful appearance may suggest, this flower generates little or no smell at all. Other common names: Stone Pink(EN), Oeillet sauvage(FR), Stein-Nelke (GER)
