I always wondered why there was no forest. Even in the driest parts of Nevada I have seen forests appearing on mountains at 7000-8000 ft. Maybe 8000 years of human agriculture and grazing in Iran have something to do with it. I have seen stands of trees on isolated and inaccessible slopes. Some 30 years ago they began planting Pine trees on the hills around Tehran at 1500-2000 m of elevation. These have now become pretty forests
Damavand is definitely the absolute king of these mountains. It is visible from every angle and from miles away.
