"You lookin at me?"

We were practicing a tyrolean traverse from the top of a crevasse that had a much lower bottom lip and this old pic shows me looking like a doofus in that hat. We never even had helmets in those days. My harness was a homemade diaper sling made out of webbing material. I shudder now when I look at pics like this. Aug 1969

Another great oldie!

Yeah, helmets just weren't used then in whitewater rafting either! I have a pic from 1973 or so with me in Class IV rapids and no helmet!

I can't even begin to imagine that we didn't use helmets. I used one when I rode my motorcycle back then but never for mountaineering. No helmet in the rapids is another chilling reality.
