Romancing the Stone

Big granite boulders + time to explore = a good time had by all. These boulders have surrendered to the forces of gravity, creating tectonic caves where water collects for wildlife. Arizona's elk are in their calfing season now, raising their young amongst this setting of boulders in central Arizona. And if you look close enough in the shadows, you might see a rattlesnake. I didn't look close enough! June 2, 2008

Rattler heaven

I'd be leary of the nice dark recesses of these boulder induced caves. It is nice to have a boulder or two you can call your own.

I was glancing at the forum topics here
on SP, and everybody seems to be spotting
snakes of some kind. Some of us are
snake-deficient; meaning we don't see
many snakes. It was like that in western
WA. After I moved to AZ, I saw tons of
snakes; so I guess you get what you wish
for in the very end. Thanks, Dean.
