In the South Colony Lakes...

In the South Colony Lakes parking lot one cautious/paranoid motorist resorted to drastic marmot countermeasures (August 1, 2003). For more photos from my Crestone Peak trip check out my website: www.leachfam.com.

My guess

is he's had a run-in with them before. The marmots in Colorado are being desensitized by ever increasing human traffic. Since it is we that invade their homes, such measures must be taken. Either that or exterminate them. I think we'll just have to live with the risks!

Yes I agree

I had my brake lines chewed in the Bugaboo's lot once, the return journey made liberal use of the handbrake - so better safe than sorry I think.

This one time in the....

Holy Cross Wilderness after a climb of the Cross Couloir a marmot stole my Patagonia long underwear while we were taking an afternoon nap! Later that summer, we had to defend our camp from a tribe of marmots while in the Gore Range on a backpacking trip.
