A road to nowhere?

No, behind this narrow gap are the Llanganuco lakes, and the road continues, past the lakes, over the high pass and beyond to Vaqueria on the other side of the Cordillera Blanca. There is quite a lot of traffic on the road, which is good, for I never quite know what day I'll return at the end of a climb so I often don't arrange return transport and then it's nice to catch a ride quickly. We're on our way to Chopicalqui, but from this valley, you can also climb Pisco, Yanapaccha, Huandoy, some difficult lines up Huascarán and, if you're really strong, Chacraraju. 3 July 2011.
