A small lake below Pizzo Centrale

From the south ridge of Gamsspitz we are looking down into a basin below the south face of Pizzo Centrale. Despite its southern position, the lake is even start of August almost all covered with ice. Photo: Jasmina Pogačnik, August 4th, 2013.

As to the ice...

...I think one mustn't forget either that this year the whole alpine season started late, due to the incredibly low temperatures and absolutely ghastly and horrible weather in May and June (I got a little taste of those floods already right here in Salzburg!!). I don't remember seeing so much ice when I was there in 2007, and possibly in the very warm year 2011 (it's rather unusual to be able to go to a place like the Grand Mountet below Obergabelhorn middle of July and meet up with almost no snow at all!) there might have been no ice at all in that place...
