...to remember our loved Paulo. I feel that he always will live in our hearts and here on SP, through his breathtaking pictures and his mountains and also through this moving memorial. Thank you so much Marc, thanks to all of you, friends.

Thank you for the kind words Silvia. I am most thankful to Paulo for leaving so much of himself for us to explore. Just when I think I have seen most of his best photos, I come across more breathtaking ones. He was master of light and shadow, he was master of capturing the mood. There's not enough words to describe the man. And, thank you for your contribution to the tribute. Marc
...to a wonderful man. Many thanks Marc and to all the other SP'rs who contributed. RIP Paulo you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Cheers Dave
My condolences to Lilianne & all of Paulo's family and friends. Thank you Marc for putting together this tribute. Life isn't fair. Parofes faced this terrible disease in a way that can be an inspiration to us all.
Never met Paulo in person (wish I had!). We had some friendly exchanges on summitpost over the years. Some years ago I was looking for a climbing guidebook to a place in Brazil. No place online had it expect for Brazilian retailers who absolutely would not be bothered with shipping to the US. On a whim, I asked Paulo if he’d pick up a copy for me if I sent him a money order. He said “no” to the money order but that he’d definitely get me a copy. After a couple months I figured he forgot – not like we really knew each other so totally understandable. I then get a message from him out of the blue saying that he was finally able to track down a copy. Apparently it was a very limited printing. Sure enough, Paulo came through and I got the book. A ton of hassle doing something for pretty much a stranger (me). We’ve kept in touch on and off since then always thinking that we’d meet someday, perhaps in Brazil. Very sad that we won’t get the chance. A warm and kind soul – can’t imagine how much he’ll be missed by those that were close to him. My sincerest condolences. Rest in peace my friend.
Thank you very much Radek, and thank you for the touching story. I would not be surprised to hear many more stories like that. That's the kind of person PAROFES was, and that's why his passing is so painful.
of a very special man, Paulo, or Parofes as I like to think of him, for while there may be a large number of Paulos, there was only one Parofes, "our" Parofes.
Reading Marcsoltan's article, and the contributions of Parofes' closest friends and his wife, one thing struck me: what a rich and exciting life Parofes had, though it was cut off so early. It is not the length of ones life that is the most important point, but what one gets out of it, and what one contributes. In this respect Parofes' life was a life well-lived. When sadly he was struck by that terrible disease, his final service to us here was to show with what dignity one could face such a terrible fate.
Thanks for the article Marc and the other contributors!
Thank you very much Ejnar.

I think every one of us has a lesson or two to take away from Parofes' life story.
I've been somewhat inactive on SP for awhile, & I didn't know much of Parofes, but this was very well written, & I feel like I knew him in a small way at the end of this (& as mountain people, we all share that common bond). He sounds like he was a really cool guy. This was a great reminder of how precious life is, & to make the most of it while you're around. I'm very sorry for your incredible loss, Lilianne.

Thanks. Thanks for this tribute. I wouldn't mind betting quite a few SP'ers plan to quietly leave photos of Parofes on summits.
Long live Parofes - in many peoples memories.

And I would like to be one of those SPers as well.

Nice tribute, MarcPaulo fought bravely and strongly against a mighty foe. He did not "go gentle into that good night."

Re: Nice tribute, MarcThank you Bob. Not only that Paulo fought a great fight, but he kept that spirit that we had all known to the end. Long live his memory.

"BIG RESPECT" for PAROFES are exactly the right words.
