Absolute Wilderness

This is a view of absolute wilderness seen from the head of the Jackson Glacier at 7853' on the Continental Divide. The lighting was wrong, but the scene was too wildly beautiful to pass on photographing. The glacier on the right is the Harrison Glacier; the horn-like peak is Walton Mountain. There are no trails crossing the terrain this view covers. It is a long story how I got to this spot, where I never planned on being, but once I was there, only the urgency of finding my missing hiking partner could compel me to leave. Walton Mountain

The "horn" is named Walton Mountain and is one of the "technical" summits in Glacier. The climb feels very remote for the park, more like canada than Glacier, and is a great climb.

Thanks, I think. I always figured it had a name-- looked too spectacular not to have one-- but I also liked my little illusion. I changed the caption.

don't try to climb this one in september...
the Harrison glacier is a mess. This is probably one of the most beautiful places in the park
