Acatenango Fuego

Acatenango Fuego

Snow or ice is very unusual in Guatemala, even on volcanoes over 4000 mts. Picture by Ricky Mata.

Wow

Great photo! I have never seen ice or snow up there. Any idea when this was taken?

Re: Wow

This pic is from the 80's, but this particular snow appears every 6 or 8 year in the summer season march-april. When happens is possible to see the snow for 2 or 3 days. Last snowed was 2 years ago (2006), then something really unusual appears on february 2008 over Santa Maria, Tajumulco, Tacana, Fuego and Acatenango and some parts from Cuchumatanes all covered with snow at the same day.
