Afternoon light on Aran Benllyn

After a fine walk across the isolated Aran Ridge in central Wales Nick and I where heading back on the road to Llanuwchllyn when the sun came back out and I took this triple exposure image of the northern reaches of the ridge. Taken 2nd May 2010.

Fantastic photo!

Beautiful capture. What software do you use for your HDR images. Thanks for posting. Cheers.

Re: Fantastic photo!

Thank you for the nice comment. The HDR software I use is Photomatix 3.1 and I always try to be subtle with the results as some people take the images that bit too far making them look unreal.
Once again thank you.
David.

Thank you for commenting and I am pleased you both like it.
I enjoy sharing photos of our fine countryside with SP users as that is what this web site is for.

Re: I agree with the above!

I will be putting a trip report or a route description of this day I had on the Welsh Aran mountains. Plenty of other HDR images will be added to that page.
Cheers - David.

Re: Excellent photo!

Thank you for the comment.
Its a favourite of mine taken on that day and I balanced the camera on a fence post to get the three exposures.
Just luck really.

HDR

Hi David, I was wondering, do you take three (or more) shots for your HDR pictures? Or do you take just one, make duplicates and then change their exposures accordingly in image editing software?
Cheers
Dan

Re: HDR

Hi there Dan,
There are few different ways I edit HDR images. In most cases I will use the BKT +-1 EV setting on the cameras I have so as to have the three seperate exposure images. The other way is instead of HDR use of Exposure Blending software as this can be more subtle and does not create the glows and grey effects that some images will get in HDR format.
The last method is take one shot. Darken it and lighten it in Photoshop then force edit the three in either of the two methods stated above.
In some cases especially in dark lighting conditions or if there is no sky with moving clouds to contend with I may adjust the shutter speed manually whilst the camera is on a tripod taking anything up to 3, 5, 7 or even 9 seperate exposures.

I hope that answers your question Dan,
Cheers.
David.
