Agave Bloom

Agave Bloom

This was the only Agave in full bloom on route to Bridge Point in Red Rocks, Nevada. May 2007. This route follows Fern Canyon and then climbs out of it in north easterly direction to the prominent gully. Once on top of the gully, the summit is less than a half a mile away. You can view my slideshow of the entire hike here: Bridge Point via Fern Canyon

Re: What an unusual...

Thank you. These blooms are peculiar indeed. Pretty strange to photograph a flower that is twice as tall as me ;)

Wow!

I like this photo a lot! and the slide show is pretty wonderful, too, Especially the photo of the big horn sheep. I think they were very curious about you, too.

Re: Wow!

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the slideshow too. It was a joy seeing bighorns as usual. I think it has been a good spring for them and most of the lambs that were born have made it. I didn't see as many little bighorns in the previous years.

Re: Mmmmm....

Thanks Dan. Often they are just straight and so tall in the sky that it's even hard to see the flowers up close. This one was all twisted around and very cool.

Great Shot

Funny how you only have a split second to react. That is very good.

Re: Great Shot

Thank you. This bee was very persistant and he didn't fly away even when I got closer to the flowers.

Re: What!?

Thank you. I remember this bloom well. It was so tall and gorgeous. I couldn't help myself but take pictures from every angle possible ;) Cheers.

A beautiful shot!

The colors, the perfect agave branch and the little bee below - a perfect composition!
