Alteschlossfelsen (= Old...

Alteschlossfelsen (= Old Castle Rock) is one of the weirdest rock formations I have seen in my life. A 1km lineup of sandstone mushrooms, often connected at the tops forming endless caved, rock windows and overhangs. The PK list some 40 climbing (bouldering?) routes for this massif on their website. Difficulties range up to 9-!

Nice rock.

Do you have similiar shots as this? Do you know the aproximate age of the sandstone?

Re: Nice rock.

Thanks Jon. Do I have more pictures like this? You might explore this page, there are about 100 of them ;-)

I had to look up the age: 200 million years ago the area settled into a basin, which turned into a sea, creating the sediments. 20 million years later the ground rose again and erosion did the rest, leaving countless sandstone towers, which today are often hidden deep inside the forests.
