An unexpected summit cross: Piz Grambola (3190m)

As we were traversing the NW ridge from the Silvrettahorn towards Schneeglocke, there was a small protuberance. We didn't think much of it, but after scrambling up it actually had a cross on top, and a plaque that declared it's name to be Piz Grambola. Later we saw on the map that the same small summit was called Knoten. Besides the ridges from Silvrettahorn and Schneeglocke, a third, less clear ridge went due west to Rotfluh. At this point, with an eye to the sky, we decided to change plans. After going north just a short while, to the lowest point on the ridge to the Schneeglocke, we turned west and descended to the west, onto the small Klostertaler Glacier. 24 July 2013.
