The problem with 'fixing' the sandbag on Aries is that the rating no longer reflects accurately with the rest of the Index ratings. Next we would have to make Godzilla 5.10a, Sagitarius 5.10c, etc. Since most climbs at Index have stiff ratings, keeping Aries at 5.8 enables you to compare it to other climbs at Index with a similar grade.
I understand your point, but disagree. Aries is harder than GM, Toxic Shock, Roger's Corner, Happy Puppy, etc., which are all established Index 5.9s. My point is that Aries is misgraded, no need to change anything else. Godzilla is probably a testpiece for the grade, but no need to change it.
