ON AUGUST 4, 2008, a grass fire erupted on the northeast slopes of Green Mountain. Started by lightning and fed by strong winds, the fire spread down the slopes toward my neighborhood, threatening many homes. It consumed 300 acres and altered much wildlife habitat.
A BIG 'THANK YOU' to the firefighters of the West Metro Fire Protection District for controlling the blaze and limiting its destruction to the mountain itself.
