This was part of a series of climbs during a back pack in snowy conditions over my spring break back in 1970. No tent, just a tarp and a sleeping back!
Nice day. Post holing part of the way. Almost did not make it up the snow, which was virgin at time, wearing only mountain boots. Came up from Vincent Pass.
Tried this peak from Vincent Gap last year and was unsuccesful due to high amount of snow. This time we went when it was a little nicer. Great views next time we'll go from Dawson
Start of a long-ish peak-bagging loop over to Islip.
Long 16-mile, three-peak day
Tagged this and Mount Burnham via the PCT from Dawson Saddle. Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful hikes in the San Gabriels. The summit is unusual and the trail is never harder than moderate difficulty. Highly recommended especially from Dawson, I think its a 10 mile hike and a few thousand feet of gain. I've thrown pics up on my blog in case its helpful to you. http://summitascents.com/2010/10/11/dawson-saddle-to-mt-baden-powell-and-mt-burnham/
out and back from islip saddle to baden-powell. 17 miles rt with 3800' gain. baden-powell, burnham, throop, and hawkins.
I climbed Baden-Powell during my 2012 thru hike.
Fun hike before the fire, continued on to Burnham and Throop.
Sweet climb with Chadwick!
Easy trek up. Some snow patches, but nothing to write home about. Lovely view of the Baldy complex of peaks.
#5 on Islip Saddle to Vincent Gap 5-peak traverse.
Climbed up and skied down with Alvin W
First time up this mountain, eyes almost popped out when reaching the summit.
Beautiful day to break trail in 6-12" of the gooey-est snow I've been in for a long long time! Winds were a wonderful sustained 35mph with gusts that nearly knocked me over but the sun was out and we stayed pretty warm. Can't wait for a couple more feet of wet stuff to set this baby up for some ski descents!
Tagged Burnham as well....boring summit.
Last snow hike before summer - beautiful as always.
Both parking lots were full! So much for a peacefull hike. Otherwise really enjoyed it!
2nd time, this time from MM 66.38 to Mt. Islip, Mt. Hawkins, Throop Peak, Mt. Burnham, Mt. Baden-Powell and back.
Great trail from Dawson Saddle to PCT and then to Baden Powell. One of the best views in the entire range and very popular.
Good opportunity to bag a few other little peaks on the way. Nice views of Iron Mountain and Baldy.
