Sense of direction ..A long section of the "Great Western Trail"
runs through the Black Hills of central AZ.
My guess is the GWT traverses 4,455 miles through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana ... that's some awesome scenery.

Re: Sense of direction ..It's done less than the Appalachian Trail. I think only a small number of people hike the entire Great Western Trail. I read that it was first through hiked in 1988 and it took five months from June to October.

I don't know many people who prefer to "long-distant-hike" anymore. Seems like there were
lots more people doing it back in the 1980's.
