2. Also, good communication is vital when the expedition is comprised of friends who do not take up the strict leader versus follower roles; like in the old, do as your told days, of expedition climbing.
Many climbing expeditions are beginning to realize, as SCUBA divers have, that we all die alone & in a limited visibility, limited hearing condition; your partner, even if roped to you, even with a radio/comm link unit attached, may as well be on the moon if your in trouble.
Especially the higher or deeper you go. They don't call it the Death Zone for nothing...
