Bath Rock formation as seen...

Bath Rock formation as seen from the top of The Wart across the road. Easy and moderate (5.3-5.8) routes reach the summit of the formation from this (road) side. Some steep bolted lines exist on the opposite side. There's even a "walk off" (class 3/4) off the back side of Bath Rock.

Rock

Once again, great set of pictures. Couple of questions.

1. What type of rock is this?

2. Is it worth the drive?

Thanks,

Jason

Re: Rock

Jason,

1. granite - have no idea what type of granite it is exactly, but it's clean and highly featured with dishes and flakes (compared to the stuff in Yosemite).

2. definitely! we've done the drive there 3 times for a 3-day weekend but are crazy enough about this place to drive there (once) on a regular weekend (leave Friday after work, drive 10 h thru. the night, climb Sat. & 1/2 day Sun. and get back home Sun. night by 1 or 2am).

My impression of climbing at the City is that (1) routes are clean (2) ratings feel "right" after climbing at Smith (no sandbags that we've encountered yet) (3) has this out of the way backcountry feel (before Memorial Day anyway).
