Wet, Fogged and Surrounded by People
Drenched in fast moving clouds that killed all views but not the crowds of people on Columbus Day weekend.

Foggy Wonderland!
Really foggy, cold, May attempt at Black Balsam w/ my friend Max and three Brittany Spaniels Eolus, Maple, and Mollie. Hiked up from Flat Laurel Creek trailhead, and made great time up to the parking lot before the summit. Visibility was really no more than 50 yards the entire time, which caused some confusion on the false summit before Black Balsam. We thought we were at the top, but after uploading the GPS found out we were about a half mile short. Still a great day in the fog and wind though there were no views.

Part of a troika
First mountain of three for the day via the Art Loeb trail. Very different from anything else in the area.

Nice hike, but crowded
This was the first of 5 6K foot peaks on the day. The Great Balsams were just crawling with people on this nice weather start to the memorial Day weekend.

Shining Rock Ledge traverse
Backpacked from Graveyard Fields into a traverse of the Ledge to Deep Gap. Witnessed rare southern Appalachian alpenglow on this mountain from our camp along the Yellowstone Prong!

It's so close to the road; we go blueberry picking in this area at the end of every summer

Amazing open landscape for the South
I love this mountain. So much bald, open grassy landscape with vast views and an occasional gneissic rock outcrop to play on. Can meander and bushwack all around on this fun peak. Have camped on top a few times also. Fun, Fun, Fun!

Hiked with my daughter
Hiked this with my daughter, along with the crowds that day. The views were good for the first hour or so, but clouds, followed by rain came in. We had to quickly leave the summit and back to the car as the rain started to fall.

Art Loeb Trail
Went early in AM. Nobody there. Fantastic views. May be it was just the clouds and the fog that day, but the views were tremendous and the valleys seemed deep. I look forward to returning in winter.

Foggy and Wet
I climbed this with my girlfriend, just before I proposed to her. It was a wet day and the best weather we had was on top of this mountain.

Feels Like Home
This was quite fun and the tiny bluets on the way up reminded me of home. One of my favorites.
First "climbing" trip east of the Mississippi. A nice, albiet crowded, summit with expansive views. Nice to see some country with a little 'alpine' feel. Continued on to Tennent. (very nice)

Perfect hikeFantastic views. I enjoyed beig here in winter way more than summer. Summer had 100's of people. Winter maybe 10, good for k9 friends.
