Black canyon of the Gunnison

Black canyon of the Gunnison

Overview

Black Canyon is a relatively new US national park, it was upgraded to this status in October 1999. On an overcast day the canyon indeed looks black.
Most people visit only the South Rim, which is more developed, has a paved road, and easily accessible. It is only a short drive from the city of Montrose, Colorado, our new future home.
The North Rim Drive is a road less traveled. It is a gravel road open generally from late March through mid-November, depending on the weather.

Great Canyon

Perhaps even greater than the Grand one; it all depends how you measure. Great surroundings, Liba, my congrats!

PS Yep, I've translated a text about this national park too. :)

Re: Great Canyon

I certainly do, I already learnt a lot when I was at high school – I used to write to the Parks and they'd kindly send me lots of booklets and maps. Actually, I managed to build up an impressive collection of postcards from nearly all of the parks that had already been designated. :)

montrose?

are you excited about your move to CO? what a great base for the great outdoors! we are hoping to visit the Black Canyon of the Gunnison for the first time very very soon. We will have our little one with us so unfortunately no rock climbing, but we look forward to camping and hiking the North Vista Trail!
