Blue Bottle Fly on Willow Catkin
Blue Bottle Fly (Calliphora vomitoria) on the catkin of Swamp Willow (Salix myrtilloides ).
This large fly from the Family Calliphridae has a shiny metallic blue body with rows of bristles along each side. Its eyes are red and the wings are clear. This fly is attracted to all kinds of decaying material and it is also a pollinator of some flowers with a strong odor.
