Drive Up Seem Scarier Than The Hike
Managed to summit and descend safely despite having AMS due to the altitude. Started from the Kennedy Saddle via the Queen Mine trail. That extra drive up is not for the faint of heart. A high-clearance vehicle or 4WD is definitely recommended due to the deep potholes that will rock your car towards the cliff. HP#27

Non-standard route
We started at the Trail Canyon TH, but near the end of the meadow, we turned left and went straight up to a rocky east-west ridge line that we followed up to the summit of Boundary. We then took the traverse over to Montgomery and got into some sketchy terrain (very narrow, exposed ledges at one point) by taking the "wrong" way around some rocky obstacles. I suspect the "normal" route up to the Trail Canyon saddle and then up to Boundary might have been better.

First 13er
Buddy and I overnighted at Queen Mine and were on the trail at 05:10. Followed a good track from Everytrail, which came in handy as general bearing through the scree and rock. Warm weather and very little snow - no special gear required.

From Queen Mine Saddle
Perfect climb for Memorial Day weekend. Snow was melted out enough so as not to need any special gear, though getting around the gendarme just before the summit was a bit tricky with icy snow bordering it on both sides (I'm sure it's simple without the snow). Beautiful day and fun hike!

Great climb!
I camped with two friends of mine who were to attempt to summit with me, but by the time we hit 10,500' they were in serious distress from altitude and needed to head back to camp. I summited alone, the trip was very hard in the soft scree that sapped my strength on every step but it was fantastic! Expected rain so I did not spend the extra time to go to Montgomery Peak and I regret that in hindsight.
Beautiful terrain, but for a novice like me, it was hard!

Really enjoyed the hike! Only saw a couple other hikers. Woken up by wild horses in the middle of the night. Very cool. Climbed with mebo1126.

good hike
7.5h hike, just follow the trail and you'll be fine, via Trail Canyon Route which I'd recommend a 2WD SUV. The hard part is to gain the ridge and once you did that, it's 1.5h to the summit for me.
Nice work! I am heading there in late December. How much snow was on the ground when you went? Any idea where to find the most recent condition reports or road closures?

Via Queen Mine 4wd TH. Horses, deer on the trail. Little snow from the saddle to the summit. Bluebird day.
Climbed via the Queen Mine. My friend's Toyota Corolla couldn't make it to the mine so we ditched it along the way and walked up to Kennedy point, camped there and climbed it the next day. I thought the scree wasn't as bad as advertised but the scrambling was worse than I had thought. Maybe I got off route for that last section. Perfect weather and a great hike, it's a really cool mountain in it's own way.

Pretty hot climb in August. Nice views of a big chunk of central Nevada and the eastern Sierras.

2 Peaks, 2 States
Tagged Boundary and Montgomery with Kathy and John on a perfectly gorgeous day! Very easy to navigate although you see "goat" trails everywhere, just pick your line. I found that Montgomery was much more satisfying than Boundary but it was pretty cool to hit the NV high point. Great day!

Third highpoint this year (Mt. Elbert in Colorado a week earlier, Guadalupe Peak in Texas in March). See Ambret's trip report.
