Brimstone

Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni) is common in the Polish mountains. It is often the first butterfly to be seen after winter. The wings of females have lemon green color and the wings of males are whitish green. All have characteristic dots. They fly from June to August and can reach the altitude of 2500 metes. This photo was taken near Black Creek at the foothills of Mount Kopiec (635 m). The Low Beskid - August 21, 2007.

Thank you for your vote and comment. These butterflies are very common in the Low Beskid but they are very skittish and hard to photograph. I see them from early spring through autumn.Henryk
