Best views of the Pioneers so far!  Sucess!

Took a non-standard view coming in from Fairfield up Little Beaver Creek to the top of the old mine at about 6400' (passable in a Subaru but a little sketchy), hiked 2.5 miles up the jeep road to connect with the Wolftone-Curran trail heading west, and then headed up the standard SE ridge. Looks worse than it is! Views from the top of the snowy Pioneers, Boulders, other Smokies, etc. are incredible.

Tip: when you reach the area on the ridge where you're looking at the rather large cliff and scree slopes at about 8300', go to your right rather than sticking to the ridge, and stay low through the grass before getting back on the ridge. We found this way on the return and it was far more pleasant than trying to descend the scree! 14 miles / 3200' RT.

Big Day  Sucess!

Enjoyed the long but fun southeast ridge option schemed up by John F. Excellent day in the mountains with the Johns, including a fierce but short squall during our descent. Tons of wildlife, in spite of last year's big fire.

early spring snowshoe  Sucess!

a low snow year made the south side of this peak accessible. Climbed up the southwest ridge. One sharp spot made me wish I had brought my ice axe. I came down the north side which was much more winter like and came across avalanche debris and mining ruins. Scenic little peak with some good views of the Pioneers and Soldier Mountains.

Pleasant Surprise  Sucess!

Zach and I snuk this peak in today and made it out just as the rain began to fall. Buttercup was surprisingly alpine and had a killer view of the area. We approached via Buttercup Creek.

Nice Hike Close to Hailey  Sucess!

Nice early/late season climb. I passed all the hunters along the road on the way in. Didn't see anyone on this trail. Great views of the Pioneers. Nice half day hike.

Route Climbed: North Face/South Ridge Date Climbed: November12th/05  Sucess!

I was confused on the approach due to an early morning snowstorm and made a wrong and early turn that lead me up the north face. This involved the most strenuous 4 hours of my life postholling up to my waist through a very stubborn crust.

I descended down the South Ridge which was a little better. Overall, this is a good hike close to town if you want total wilderness to yourself.
